Abstract: Industrialized countries have been witnesses of an uninterrupted process of corporate internationalization and market globalization and have begun the trip towards economic liberalization and privatization. This movement is accompanied by the extension of the culture of competition as reaction against the excesses of interventionism and inefficient regulation that have been sustained by their economies over many years as well as against the effects of such interventionism on companies, workers and the public sector itself. There is no doubt about the positive effects of competition on prices, offer, investment, employment and, consequently, economic growth. For these reasons, policies of introduction and defense of competition and deregulation, have gained in importance over the last few years, albeit not without difficulty. It is therefore a matter of combining, in adequate proportions, competition, regulation, defense of public interests and welfare.
