Abstract:
Commercial activity does not receive the attention and recognition that other economic sectors have enjoyed, and which have also passed through moments of profound transformation as is now the case with this sector. Such intense changes, which are yet to fully conclude within the Basque Country, will make the sector a preponderant activity within the economy as a whole, and will place companies within it at the forefront of the corporate ranking. One of the elements which is subject to debate is the degree and type of public intervention that is required to impel sector adjustment. This sector hopes and needs to approach a real reform, and this means more than just acting exclusively by way of legislation, means playing a leadership role from an institutional level of higher responsibilities than those held by the Autonomous Communities.
