El comercio exterior de la industria manufacturera de la CAPV: un análisis comparado

Abstract:
In this work the author compares data on foreign trade in manufactured products from the Basque Country with those of Spain, Europe, the United States and Japan. With this purpose, a study is made of the concentration and the specialisation that the mentioned trade presents in such areas, by sectors as well as by a series of meaningful activity groups created in relation with the economic destination of the goods, technological levels, growth of output demand and technical-economic criteria. The article analyses both the situation in 1994 (in which the current economic recovery began) as well as the evolution observed from 1985 (the year before Spain´s entry in the European Union). This is done by using data on foreign trade, classified by industrial branches, published by the Basque Government and Eustat (for the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country) and by the STAN data base of the OECD (for the remaining countries).
