Abstract:
The introduction of new technologies into productive systems, as well as the development of technological innovation as a source of new competitive advantages has made governments of advanced countries assume an active and driving role in technological development and innovation. A comparative study of the American and Japanese experiences in the area of technological development provides two different ways to understand the process of innovation, even though they tend to get closer with the passage of time as a consequence of the need for strengthening and directing a process that is becoming increasingly complex, and that integrates a large number of institutions.
