Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to analyse the future of the welfare state from a post Keynesian perspective. It has various objectives: with regard to the pension system, the article sets out to show that the problems resulting from the ageing of the population are independent of the financing system chosen. Secondly, it argues that the welfare state does not create costs, but rather redistributes the costs associated with any assurance programme. And finally, it goes on to show that the current economic transformation increases individual insecurity, and thus the need for greater insurance.
