Abstract:
After defining the concept of competitiveness and specifying the indicators used to measure it (industrial value added per capita, revealed comparative advantage and firm profitability), the article analyses the level of these indicators and the correlation between themselves and with industrial occupation and employment indicators, in the CAPV, Spain, EU-13, USA and Japan. The article analyses, as well, the evolution of the competitiveness'''' indicators (manufacturing gross value added per capita and revealed comparative advantage) and employment, during the 1985-1996 period. The analysis is concentrated on the manufacturing industry and its ten sectors dissagregation.
