Abstract:
Regional development has moved today to new arenas. Nowadays, we are speaking about learning regions that are able to adapt themselves to the new competitive conditions posed by globalisation. Regional policies has also changed. Now, regional policies devote much of their attention to productive clusters and innovation systems. The evaluation of these new and sophisticated designs is an important challenge. Traditional evaluation models do not adapt well to the specific characteristics of these policies. As a consequence, it is necessary to seek for new evaluation approaches that contribute to asses the regional impact, to understand how and why these programs work and to help regional governments to design better and better policies.
