Abstract:
This article seeks first to give an overview of developments in the theory of financial brokering, and then goes on to present the strategic changes affecting the activities of credit institutions. This shows up the renewed role of information, human capital, customer relations and risk distribution within banking, in the framework of globalisation in terms of functions, business and space. Even the term 'financial supermarkets' falls short as a description of the situation following the creation of real conglomerates. Controlling these organisations, which are always hard to supervise, has become an important matter for the authorities in their efforts to contain the risks inherent in the system.
