Abstract: All work is susceptible of protection just because of the mere fact of having been created. The author receives that coverage to preserve and encourage the development of such work, which derives in benefits for all. But economic circumstances and the evolution of technology affect both works and authors. That is the precise case that we intend to deal with throughout this article. Where musical works come from and what the future augurs for them, taking into account economic circumstances, the advances of new technologies like the Internet and the new formats. The author also discourses on what such changes imply reference to the dissemination and protection of musical works, which have been marked by parallel markets that encumber this type of works (fraudulent copying, piracy). There is also an analysis on what legal, strategic and economic/entrepreneurial possibilities there are to achieve their survival and evolution in the future.
