Abstract:
Entrepreneurship as creative organising, networking, is in this paper applied to a spatial system, a locality. A vocabulary is created that pays due respect to networking as a socio-economic construct. Proposed concepts present the territory as an ‘organising context’. The ‘incorporated’ vs. the ‘entrepreneurial society’ are introduced as contrasting ideals with respect to potential scope for local economic development. Localised networks as a generic organising device are operationalised and applied to three Swedish small-firm settings. The empirical lessons suggest that traditional images of control as associated with regulating the premises, the actions and or the outcome of organised activity has to be replaced with ‘relational control’ that aims at instigating and energising selforganising. This is accomplished through an ongoing ‘polylogue’, involving local firms as well as other stakeholders in the locality.
