Abstract: The Basque autonomous region has undergone a huge change during the last 25 years: from an obsolete energy system, contaminant and ineffective, in an uncertain environment and without a clear energy policy; to a comprehensive and diversified system which consolidates an autogeneration, guaranteeing the supply, and based on a clear energy strategy. In the next years, the energy efficiency, the use of the native and renewable resources, the supply guarantee and the environment will act as an energy reference within a general outline for a sustainable development. This paper enables us to conclude that energy, despite being a global matter, allows regional solutions.
