Abstract: The outlook for the Basque savings banks shows a gradual loss of relative weight of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country in Spain, measured in terms of certain significant financial and economic variables. This behaviour can be explained in terms of the development of the Basque population on the one hand and different economic growth models on the other. Banking organisations are engaged in a process of liberalisation and deregulation, and face new challenges arising from a financial environment characterised by restructuring and adjustment of capacities.
