Abstract:
The declining access to natural resources, including fossil fuels, has become the main threat to the current economic model and to social well-being. Further, this reality is increasingly conditioning the innovation strategies that need to be implemented to cope with the challenges linked to the scenario of scarcity that we are facing. Future studies can be a useful instrument in the transition towards a new model that makes a much more efficient use of resources, in particular when the foresight processes incorporate knowledge and signs of alarm from a broad set of scientific disciplines. Future studies can help mitigate the negative effects of the dynamics of decline, but should be accompanied by a systematic vigilance process.
