Abstract: This article outlines the background, the underlying reasons and the actual setting up of Distrito 22@ Barcelona, and analyses the results achieved, especially in the fields of urban planning and economic promotion. It then goes on to discuss the cultural activities based in this district of Barcelona before finally addressing the challenges for the future there in the context of the current economic crisis.
