Abstract:
Life expectancy has established itself as the preeminent biometric indicator in the field of pensions. An analysis of all the factors that might impact the measurement of the longevity risk becomes a priority if what we seek is to design, in actuarial terms, equitable pensions for all. This article summarises the consequences of underestimating life expectancy following retirement, and examines the impact that an individual’s socioeconomic factors, including level of personal wealth and marital status, can have on the number of years lived and on the absence of actuarial equity in a pension system.
