Hipótesis de señalización versus capital humano. El caso de México

Abstract: The aim of this article is to show a wide set of procedures to verify the signaling hypothesis against the Human Capital hypothesis as determinant of wages in Mexico. The main conclusion is that, despite of the existence of certain level of signalling in the Mexican labour market, the Human Capital Theory continue to be the best explanation in determining wages and their differences. The data base used were the Household Budget Survey 1994 and 1996.// El objetivo de este artículo es presentar un amplio conjunto de procedimientos para verificar la hipótesis de señalización en México como determinante de los salarios frente a la teoría de capital humano, utilizando para ello información procedente de las Encuestas Nacionales de Ingresos y Gastos de los Hogares 1994 y 1996. La conclusión general es que, no obstante que en el mercado laboral mexicano existe alguna señalización, la teoría del capital humano aún es la base para explicar la determinación de los salarios y sus diferencias.
