Abstract: Trade agreements, particularly those of economic integration, have political origins and objectives, based in this, the study presents the changes that were introduced by Donald Trump, the current president of the United States, in the economic relations and international policy, when he replaced the “consensus hegemony” of the postwar liberal internationalism for realism. Such a transformation is present in the Brexit, the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and other world events. This text also revises the threats and actions of the United States government towards Mexico, which Trump uses as an electoral mechanism, and compares them with the opinions of Mexican society, which incline more towards a transformation of the economic model. Finally, it presents the most relevant changes of the NAFTA contained in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), and suggests how the interests of Mexico and the United States are favored.
