Abstract: This text recollects key moments of the life and work of Julio López Gallardo, the recently deceased great Latin American economist. It points to historical moments such as Allende’s Chile, Pinochet’s military coup, and Julio López Gallardo’s political asylum in Mexico, where he adopted the nationality. It refers especially to the theoretical foundations that shaped his academic activity, associated with M. Kalecki, the great Polish economist, of whom he is considered his most outstanding disciple.
