Abstract:
A guideline unites the thoughts of Raúl Prebisch, Celso Furtado and Luiz Carlos Bresser-Pereira, economists from different generations, countries and life histories: their motivations have always been of action, of participation in the public debate to improve economic policies. Acting in the public sector of their countries in different time periods and positions, Prebisch, Furtado, and Bresser-Pereira made important contributions to the economic literature, mainly derived from concerns about the management of economic policy instruments. Here, too, we contrast Prebisch’s and Furtado’s classic developmentalism with Bresser-Pereira’s new developmentalism.
