Abstract:
In the framework of the special issue of El Trimestre Económico, this article discusses the Latin American context based on the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean’s (ECLAC) thinking concerning a sustainable development proposal. It analyzes the three current crises—economic, environmental, and social—and the challenges derived from them based on the center-periphery model, as well as the factors involved, such as technological development, specialization patterns, and employment and wages dynamics. Based on this analysis, it is argued that a strategy for sustainable development requires combining different types of policies.
