Abstract:
This article visits the main concepts and milestones on gender equality and women’s autonomy in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) production. It reviews its link to the debates and agreements adopted by the governments at the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, especially the Montevideo Strategy for the Implementation of the Regional Gender Agenda in the framework of Sustainable Development towards 2030 (CEPAL, 2017a) and the Santiago Commitment (CEPAL, 2020b). The structural challenges of gender inequality are a key to understanding this problem in the region and bringing light to the design of public policies oriented towards equality.
