Abstract: We examine the indicators of vertical specialization when the level of industrial concentration changes for a collection of countries included in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) input-output tables. For this, we propose a methodological strategy that integrates industrial concentration within a non-linear version of the input-output model. As is well known, the input-output model assumes free competition because, by taking a linear structure, the model does not consider concentrated market structures such as oligopolies or monopolies. Our results indicate that the increase in industrial concentration has an import substitution effect since it reduces the share of imported inputs in exports.
