Abstract: This article is a critique of the concept of rationality in neoclassical economics and the ideological bias of Rawls’ theory of justice. Fair social mobility is presented as an essential element of justice; it requires two fundamental components. The first is a truly fair equality of opportunity, understood as the strict equality of basic effective rights. The second one is perfect procedural justice, defined as equitable procedures that reasonably guarantee the desired results based on the principle of desert. A concrete proposal for social justice is presented in three stages. The first one prioritizes exclusively overcoming poverty, the second stage prioritizes equity, and the third prioritizes efficiency.
