Abstract:
Adopting long-term energy strategies is essential to set the course that economies take. In this sense, several studies and reports have focused on different topics, such as using renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy poverty, carbon capture, and innovation. However, there is a need to map the global situation of the strategic energy plans adopted by countries, focusing on those currently in force. The methodology adopted in this study is quantitative, starting with the compilation of all the strategic energy plans available in the International Energy Agency’s database between July and October 2023. The main findings show that energy efficiency, renewable energy, as well as research, development, and technological innovation are the dominant topics in almost all continents. In turn, countries in Europe have included the most topics in their strategic energy plans, with Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, and the United Kingdom standing out. Nevertheless, the United States and Japan also stand out.
