Abstract:
This paper analyzes the effects of children on income, con sumption and saving profiles for Mexican families. We use the Life Cycle Model that allow us to follow the families behavior along his life cycle, while our empirical work is based on synthetic panels as pro posed by Browning, Deaton and Irish (1985). Our results show that for ah our samples, families without children are saving more, particular ly in the case of extended families and those living in urban areas. It is important the effect of children through income because it affects women labor force participation. Finally, we show that in the case of older children, income grows because women return the labor market. There is also a positive effects on saving.
