Abstract: The main concern in this paper is to outline the guidelines for developing a secure remote access policy framework specifically tailored to European organizations. The study points out the importance of remote access security in changing work environments and regulatory frameworks. Key components of the remote access policy framework are identified and discussed through a systematic literature review and secondary data analysis. Such include, authentication measures, encryption protocols, device management, user training, and incident response procedures. It is argued that it is important to implement a strong remote access policy that can help mitigate security risks, protect sensitive data, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Consequently, offering insights into best practices as well as recommendations for policy development and implementation; this research aims at empowering European organizations to improve their posture on remote access security whilst advocating for the adoption of secure yet efficient remote work practices.
