Abstract:
This study explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into literature introduction courses and examines its potential applications in teaching literary comprehension and creative writing. The research focuses on classroom practices in which AI is used to guide students in composing both classical-style poetry and modern verse, emphasizing the learning process from textual interpretation and imagery analysis to creative generation. In terms of course design, instructors first employ AI tools to assist students in analyzing the themes and imagery structures of both classical and contemporary literary works. Students are then guided to imitate and transform textual styles, ultimately producing personalized English verse poems. Subsequently, the course incorporates the multimodal capabilities of generative AI, encouraging students to transform their original poems into visual images or songs. Through image and music generation, students deepen their understanding of poetic meaning and emotional expression. This study investigates whether AI-assisted literary instruction and creative activities can effectively enhance students’ abilities in textual interpretation and their confidence in creative writing, while also fostering cross-media thinking and aesthetic literacy. Finally, it discusses the limitations and possibilities of AI in literary education and proposes future directions for human–AI collaboration in literature courses.
