Orbit of an Extended Body in a Repulsive Field: Toward an Electromagnetically Bound Nucleus

Abstract: The point particle assumption is unjustified. Inspired by Randell Mills’ classical extended electron model, we ask whether an asymmetrically positively charged ring can orbit a positive point charge in a stable manner. We numerically simulate this system up to five million time steps and find that the point remains inside the ring. The ring and point represent two simplified protons that orbit under repulsion, a behavior inconceivable with point charges, but which may occur in nature. The simulation source code is provided.
