Abstract:
This paper models labor supply decisions of fathers and mothers from Nuevo Leon State and examines the welfare levels that both could face under different hours of paid work. Bargaining models are applied and analyzed using game theory. It is adapted a methodology to separate goods consumed by each household member. Then, two demand systems are estimated to know the differences in fathers and mothers´ consumption patterns which reject the unitary model. Finally, this paper finds that fathers’ education level, mothers’ age, and children younger than five years old affect mothers’ labor supply.
