La revolución cubana en el seno de la Nueva Izquierda británica: Una visión desde el futuro

Kepa Artaraz

Entelequia. Revista Interdisciplinar, 2006, issue 1, 3-16

Abstract: This article examines the place occupied by the Cuban Revolution in the British New Left by contextualizing the historical and ideological parameters that conformed the British New Left in the 1960s and exploring the extent to which the Cuban Revolution participated in its formative process. Reflecting on the coverage of the Cuban Revolution that can be elicited from articles about it in the New Left's flagship publication [em]New Left Review[/em] from its inception until 1971, this article builds a picture of the intellectual development of the New Left. In particular, it demonstrates that the Cuban Revolution was the model on which changing conceptualizations of the novel term "the third world" were based and also that allegiance to the Revolution was the basis of the New Left's identity, an identity that would suffer the revolution's approximation to the orbit of the Soviet Union after 1970.
