Justice, Health, Health Care and Fairness

Abstract:
This paper concerns the problem of justice in health care. As costs have escalated they constitute a considerable "bite" out of a national budget or of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The question of whether health-care and education are simply private goods like cosmetics, vacation trips or shoes or are communal property like fire protection, police and the military will be discussed. In today's society health care as well as education are needed if a person is to be able to "take advantage of the good things a given society may have to offer". This paper argues in favour of a single tiered universal health care system. It suggests that a system which has a socialist infrastructure and a capitalist supra structure may function very well.
