Epistemología y Comunicación en la obra de Gregory Bateson

Tanius Karam

Entelequia. Revista Interdisciplinar, 2007, issue 3, 127-140

Abstract: Gregory Bateson is one of the most singular authors in communicational thought. He was himself a kind of outsider, placed in a novel unknown field, in a concern to outstand thought barriers. There is the possibility of grounding a more consistent idea on communication outstanding sociological floats and reductionist trend which would consist on indefectibly linking communication to media, technology and broadcasting. Bateson's activity in academic communication is restricted to Palo Alto School, which can be considered as intellectually created by him. Beside this, he is scarcely cited. Apart the media vision of communication, we deal with a conceptual and methodological revolution, supplying amazing heuristic possibilities. Bateson could see in communication, as a science, an element featuring culture. He composed, in a new Science, a new perception form, both synthetic and cybernetic at once, regarding reality according to psychological, socio-anthropological and engineering knowledge, but from something clearly superior to all them.
