Abstract:
This article analyses the left-wing remembrance culture that is known in Spain under the title of recuperación de la memoria histórica ("recovering the historical memory"). It tries to explain why this civil society movement did appear only a few years ago. By selecting certain initiatives and presenting them it shows the characteristics as well as the focuses and the ends of activities of this civil society movement. Based on these findings it examines the current debate on the recent history of Spain.
