Abstract: Cuando nos adentramos en los referentes históricos que envuelven tanto a la lengua de signos como la comunidad sorda, no podemos dejar de mencionar el francés Ferdinand Berthier( 1803-1886), considerándose sordo de nacimiento aunque perdió dicho sentido a los 4 años. Este intelectual e investigador, fue un acérrimo defensor de la comunidad sorda francesa, convirtiéndose en un referente para esta.
