Abstract:
Aligning IT to the business and consequently creating business value from IT receive a lot of attention and are high on the agenda in many organisations. Taking care of good alignment is a two-way responsibility that actually starts within the business. Each organisation should own a clear corporate mission and should be able to express this and its supporting business goals to the rest of the organisation. In parallel, the IT strategy, the supporting IT goals and its supporting IT processes must be carefully planned and aligned to their business counterparts. During a series of research steps, a group of experts from the financial and insurance sector shared their knowledge on important business goals, IT goals and their interrelationship. The results are presented in this paper and do provide some insights and guidance in building an organisation specific cascade of business goals and IT goals.
