Abstract: The polycrystalline CaSO4 doped with Gd3+ ions was synthesized via modified Co-precipitation method. The phosphors were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The XRD patterns confirmed the structure of CaSO4 phosphor. The photoluminescence spectra of Ca0.98SO4:0.02Gd3+ phosphor shows emission in narrow band UVB (NB-UVB) region centered at 313 nm resulting from the 6P7/2 8S7/2 transition of Gd3+ ions. Because of sharp narrow band UVB emission, the phosphor can be a potential candidate for the phototherapy application.
