Heavy Metal Contamination in Water: Advanced Chemical Removal Techniques

Ramdas N. Katapalle

International Journal of Scientific Research in Science and Technology, 2025, vol. 12, issue 4, 553-556

Abstract: Heavy metal contamination in water resources is a critical environmental issue due to its persistence, toxicity, and bioaccumulation in the food chain. This research paper provides an in-depth analysis of advanced chemical removal techniques for heavy metals in water, including chemical precipitation, adsorption, ion exchange, and advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). The study evaluates the mechanisms, efficiency, advantages, and limitations of each method, supported by experimental data and case studies. Furthermore, the paper discusses emerging trends, such as nanotechnology-based adsorbents and hybrid treatment systems, and their potential for sustainable water treatment. The findings aim to guide researchers and policymakers in selecting and optimizing chemical techniques for effective heavy metal remediation.
