Abstract:
This study assessed the physico-chemical properties and fertility status (N, P, K, S) of soils across five villages in Kurebhar block, Sultanpur (U.P.), using field surveys and standardized lab analyses. Results revealed significant spatial variation: Physically, soils ranged from compactible clay loams (Chrkuna, Babuganj; high moisture retention) to well-drained sandy loams (Guptarganj, Katkakhanpur; needing frequent irrigation), with Katka having balanced loam texture. Electro-chemically, most villages had near-neutral pH (ideal), except slightly acidic Chrkuna and slightly alkaline Babuganj; all soils were non-saline, with high CEC in Babuganj and Katka. Nutritionally, Babuganj and Katka showed high inherent N, P, K, S fertility, while Chrkuna and Guptarganj had deficient N and P. Guptarganj also exhibited potential Fe, Zn, Mn deficiencies despite sufficient Cu elsewhere. Findings highlight the critical need for village-specific soil management strategies to enhance sustainable agricultural productivity.
