Abstract: This project shows a simple and affordable IoT-based home automation system that uses an Arduino UNO, a Bluetooth module like HC-05, and a relay module to control high-voltage AC devices, such as a 220 V bulb connected through a standard bulb holder and two-pin plug. This work builds on recent studies about using Bluetooth and Arduino for home automation, focusing on making the system easy to use, affordable, and dependable. A smartphone app sends commands over Bluetooth, which the Arduino receives and passes on to the relay module to turn appliances on or off. The setup is powered by a 9 V battery, allowing it to work without being plugged in, and it also shows how to safely separate low-voltage electronics from high-voltage devices-something important in home automation projects. Compared to similar systems in recent research, this design follows the same ideas as Warankar and Dharmadhikari (2023), who focused on making lighting and other appliances controllable remotely through Bluetooth using mobile phones-this makes the system both cost-effective and easy for users, including the elderly and people with disabilities. Other studies have shown such Bluetooth-Arduino systems to be reliable and fast in real-world use, proving they can work well in smart home setups. This prototype also opens the door for future improvements, such as controlling multiple devices at once with multi-channel relays, adding sensor feedback like power monitoring, and even adding voice control through Android apps.
