Abstract: A novel and efficient synthetic strategy was developed for the preparation of cobalt complexes derived from the Schiff base ligand ((2-chloroquinolin-3-yl)methylene)-3-methoxyaniline. The ligand was synthesized via a condensation reaction between equimolar amounts of 2-chloroquinolin-3-carbaldehyde and 3-methoxyaniline under mild conditions, affording the desired product in quantitative yield. The resulting Schiff base was subsequently reacted with cobalt(II) salts to form stable coordination complexes. The formation and purity of the synthesized ligand and its cobalt complexes were confirmed through various spectroscopic techniques. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (¹H NMR) spectroscopy provided insights into the chemical environment of the hydrogen atoms, supporting the formation of the imine (–CH=N–) linkage. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy revealed characteristic vibrational bands corresponding to the imine group and metal-ligand coordination, further verifying complexation. Mass spectrometry was employed to determine the molecular weight and confirm the molecular structure of both the ligand and the cobalt complexes. These results collectively confirm the successful synthesis and characterization of the cobalt complexes, highlighting the method's efficiency, reproducibility, and potential applicability in coordination chemistry and related fields.
