Development of a Solar-Operated Wheat Harvester for Small-Scale Farms

Abstract:
Agricultural mechanization is necessary to improve farming productivity in India, but traditional fuel-powered combine harvesters are too expensive for small-scale farmers. To solve this problem, a solar-operated wheat harvester has been designed and fabricated. This compact machine uses a 12V DC motor and a slotted link mechanism to drive reciprocating cutter blades. The machine is powered by a battery that is continuously charged by a solar panel, which completely eliminates fuel costs. Unlike manual harvesting, which is very slow and requires a lot of hard labor, this mechanized approach allows farmers to cut crops faster and more efficiently. The total cost of making this prototype is very economical at just Rs. 11,050. For small landholders, this machine reduces the dependency on manual labor, saves time, operates with zero emissions, and improves the overall economic standard of the farmers.
