Abstract:
Snakes are limbless reptiles which are extremely adaptable and diverse animals. They are exceptionally important for any kind of ecosystem and second top predator in a food chain. India harbors all over 340 species of snakes due to divergent climate. In India number of studies carried out on snake diversity but a particular lack of data from Gadchiroli district. Therefore current study is designed to inventory snake species in rural part Mulchera tehsil of Gadchiroli district with particular emphasis on venomous and non-venomous snakes in order to improve knowledge of snakes and to minimize snake killing and snake bites. In this study active methods were used to collect specimens from different habitats. A total number of eighty eight (88) snake specimens representing 5 families and 21 species were collected. To assess the epidemiology of bite risks and educate the people about snakes and further studies would be needed.
