Abstract:
The global financial crisis, which started in 2009, had a negative impact on exports and imports of Romania, the scale of the impact highlighting the strong connections between the national economy and the economy of the other EU countries, which have suffered during the crisis because of falling demand for imports from Romania. The good export resilience is not a favourable thing for those counties who focused theirs exports on primary products, products based on natural resources and low-technology products (immisering exports – Zaman, G., 2015 - Endogenous regional economic development: the case of Romania). These exports lead to the decrease in foreign exchange earnings and implicitly the potential of endogenous growth at the county level, mainly due to deteriorating terms of trade (Bhagwati, J., 1958). The paper is focused on Romanian exports resilience analysis, taking into account the impact of financial crisis started in 2009. A special attention is paid to the resilience of exports at the county level and to the importance of the structural changes of Romanian export, occurred in 2014 compared to 2008.
