Abstract:
The paper aims to add information on the increase of structural heterogeneity in the Brazilian industry. Using data from the Industrial Annual Survey, the paper concludes that: (i) there is an increase in the structural heterogeneity of the Brazilian industry, if one analyzes the increase in productivity at the sectoral level and by firm size; (ii) differences in productivity growth seem to be a consequence of a modernization effort undertaken by leading Brazilian companies; (iii) there is an increase of the proportion of workers in low productivity (stagnant) sectors.
