Alca: uma estimativa do impacto no comércio bilateral - Brasil-Estados Unidos

Honorio Kum and Guida Piani

Revista Economia e Sociedade, 2006, vol. 25, 19

Abstract: This paper aims to evaluate the impact on trade flows between Brazil and the United States after the accomplishment of the FTAA. The authors used a computable partial equilibrium model. A comprehensive investigation of the existing non-tariff barriers was made and the tariff-equivalents were used in the estimations. The results for Brazil show an increase of US$ 2.2 billion in its imports from the United States and an increase of US$ 1.2 billion in its exports to that country. Almost half of the gains for Brazilian exports would be brought about by the elimination of the North American non-tariff barriers, indicating their importance as a protectionist measure of trade policy in the USA.
