Abstract: The problems of the development of the Russian Far East’s forest sector as part of the all-Russian forest sector and Northeast Asia’s forest sector are studied. Basic trends and competitors in NEA timber markets are indicated, primarily of countries – main importers of the Russian Far East’s timber products. An attempt is made to estimate possible consequences for those markets, as well as for the Russian Far East’s forest sector of the changes taking place in timber-export policy of Russia, and of the world economic crisis as well
