Abstract: An analysis is given of the economic situation in machine-building industries of the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) in 2003—2009 with a focus on the crisis period of 2008—2009. Characteristics is given of the detailed sectoral structure of the FEFD machine-building complex in dynamics for 2003—2009, the key factors of its dynamics are substantiated. A comparative analysis is given of the effectiveness of basic production and non-production financial activities of machine-building enterprises in the region. The key reserves to increase profitability in the three main branches are revealed. The role of the financial shock of 2008—2009 in the development of FEFD engineering industries is shown
