Abstract: This article presents several aspects of social control at organizations and analyses the points of view of Merton, Selznick, Gouldner, Crozier the Aston Group and Weber. It was originally published in 1979 by Professor Motta and it is now revisited by Vasconcelos and Wood Jr., who updated the bibliography and added some commeniaries in order to stress the symbolic perspective in the arguments originally presented. This new perepective was outlined by the author - in his own course "Organizational Symbolism" at EAESP-FGV (1st semester 1993).
