Boris Asrilhant, Robert G. Dyson and Maureen Meadows

RAE - Revista de Administração de Empresas, 2004, vol. 44, issue 1

Abstract: This article explores the elements and the role of techniques in facilitating successful strategic project management, as applied to the UK exploration and production (E&P) oil and gas sector. First, the existing literature on techniques applied to managing strategic projects is reviewed. Second, fifty multidisciplinary elements involved in strategic project management are described and validated, and one explores the extent to which techniques address, in theory, these elements. Third, a research identifies success elements involved in strategic project management and the extent to which techniques address these elements in practice. Fourth, sets of techniques for successful UK E&P strategic project management are proposed. The article ends with introducing some concluding remarks and future research directions, with a highlight on extending the proposed methodology to the Brazilian reality, as the results are exclusive for the British environment.
