Abstract:
This study aimed to verify the human capital contribution to the Brazilian agriculture and livestock growth using a spatial panel for the period 1970-2006 including 349 microregions. To achieve such objective, the model proposed by Freitas and Bacha (2004) was employed, which was estimated using the econometric model of spatial data panel with fixed effects, controlling the spatial dependence and the non-observable spatial heterogeneity. Our results indicated that human capital contributed to the agriculture and livestock growth, they also pointed out a strong spatial dependence between the Brazilian microregions, and that the characteristics of neighboring microregions are important in such growth.
